Old books, made easy to read again

Every book in our catalogue is in the public domain: the authors (and translators) died long ago, so the words belong to everyone. Free copies exist online, and we say so on every product page. What we sell is a better way to read them — clean, carefully typeset editions, an online reader that works on any phone or computer, and a library that keeps your books safe for re-download whenever you need them.

Our editions come from Standard Ebooks, a volunteer project that proofreads, corrects and typesets public-domain books to a high standard and dedicates its work to the public domain (CC0). We package their source files into EPUBs for e-readers and reading apps, and into a web edition for our online reader. Standard Ebooks is not affiliated with Paper Lane Books and does not endorse our shop.

You can read the opening of every book free — no account needed. If you buy, you pay in rupees with KPay, and the book is in your library seconds later. If you change your mind before downloading it or reading past the sample, you get your money back.
