Terms & Conditions

Please read these Terms carefully. By creating an account or placing an order you agree to them. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer-protection law that cannot be excluded.

1. About us and these Terms

paperlanebooks.com (the “Site”) is operated by [Your Company Legal Name] (registration no. [Company Registration No.]), [Registered business address], Pakistan, trading as Paper Lane Books. These Terms govern your use of the Site and any purchase of digital editions of public-domain books (EPUB ebook files and access to our online reader) (“Products”). They should be read with our Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, Delivery Policy, Acceptable Use Policy.

2. Eligibility and your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) and able to enter a binding contract.
  • You must give accurate information and keep your password secret. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorised use.
  • One account per person. Accounts are personal and may not be sold or transferred.

3. Products, prices and availability

  • All Products are digital. Nothing is shipped.
  • Prices are shown in PKR. The price you pay is the price shown at checkout. There are no hidden fees from us; your wallet or bank may apply its own charges.
  • We try to describe Products accurately. If we discover a pricing or description error before delivery we will contact you and you may cancel for a full refund.
  • Stock of code-based Products is limited and is reserved for you only while your order is awaiting payment.

4. Orders and when the contract is formed

When you place an order you make an offer to buy. The contract is formed when we confirm your payment and deliver the Product to your account. We may decline or cancel an order (with a full refund of anything paid) if: payment cannot be verified; we suspect fraud, money-laundering or a breach of these Terms; the order exceeds our purchase limits; or the Product is unavailable.

5. Payment

  • We accept KPay QR and KPay Request-to-Pay. Payments are authorised in your KPay app and processed by KPay; we never collect your PIN, OTP or banking credentials.
  • QR codes and payment requests are valid for a limited time (currently 15 minutes). Unpaid orders expire automatically after 60 minutes and no money is taken.
  • If you are charged more than once for the same order, we will refund the duplicate payment to the original account.
  • To protect customers we apply per-order and per-24-hour purchase limits and may ask for additional verification.

6. Delivery

Products are delivered to your account, normally instantly — usually within a few seconds. Details are in our Delivery Policy.

7. Your licence to use Products

When you buy a book you receive a personal, non-transferable right to download our EPUB file and to read the book in our online reader through your account. You may keep backup copies of the file and read it on any devices you own. Our service, website and account access may not be shared or resold. The underlying texts are in the public domain: these Terms do not restrict, and we do not claim any copyright in, the public-domain text itself.

8. Public-domain books

  • All books we sell are works whose authors (and translators) died before 1925. They are in the public domain in Pakistan (where copyright generally lasts for the author’s life plus 50 years) and in the United States. Copyright terms differ between countries; if you live elsewhere, check that a work is in the public domain where you are before downloading it.
  • The texts are available free from other sources. We state this on every product page so that you can decide whether our edition, online reader and re-download service are worth the price.
  • Our editions are built from the source files of Standard Ebooks, which dedicates its work to the public domain under CC0 1.0. Standard Ebooks is not affiliated with us and does not endorse our shop.

9. Ebook files and the online reader

  • Books are delivered as DRM-free EPUB files. EPUB works with most reading apps and e-readers; Kindle users can use Amazon’s Send to Kindle service to convert it. We do not currently supply AZW3 or KEPUB files.
  • Each file can be downloaded up to 20 times per account as a fair-use limit. Contact us if you need more.
  • The online reader requires an internet connection and a modern web browser. Free samples show roughly the first eight per cent of each book.
  • We may correct errors in our editions. Updated files replace older ones in your library at no charge.

10. Cancellations and refunds

You can cancel an unpaid order at any time. Because Products are digital and delivered immediately, at checkout you ask us to begin delivery straight away and acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel for change of mind once a Product is revealed, downloaded, streamed or played. Unused and faulty Products are refundable as set out in our Refund Policy.

11. Acceptable use

You must follow our Acceptable Use Policy. In particular you must not use the Site for fraud, resell Products without our written permission, or attempt to circumvent access controls.

12. Intellectual property

The Site, its design, text, graphics, software and our trade marks belong to us or our licensors. Product content belongs to its respective rights holders and is licensed, not sold, to you. See the Disclaimer & Trademark Notice.

13. Our liability

  • We provide Products with reasonable care and skill and as described. If a Product is faulty, your remedies are repair, replacement or refund.
  • We are not liable for losses that were not foreseeable, for business losses, or for problems caused by your device, internet connection, third-party platforms or your failure to follow redemption instructions.
  • Except where the law does not allow it, our total liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order.
  • Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

14. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time from Account → Privacy & data. We may suspend or close accounts involved in fraud, chargeback abuse, or serious or repeated breaches of these Terms, and will refund any unused, paid-for Products unless prohibited by law or the order was fraudulent.

15. Changes

We may change these Terms or the Site. The Terms in force when you place an order apply to that order. Material changes will be announced in advance.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan. Please contact us first — most issues are resolved quickly. If we cannot resolve a dispute, the courts of Pakistan have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory right you have to bring proceedings where you live.
